PRESIDENT-ELECT JOE BIDEN

918 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE S.E.,

WASHINGTON, DC 20003, USA

Dear Mr. President-Elect, Joe Biden,

RE: CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE TO PRESIDENT-ELECT JOE BIDEN OVER HIS DECISIVE AND HISTORIC VICTORY IN THE US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, WHICH MARK THE BEGINNING OF A BETTER, SAFER AND FRIENDLIER WORLD AND INDEED WILL USHER IN A VERY ROBUST US-NIGERIA RELATION

On behalf of the members of ACRD and indeed Nigerians in Canada and the United States, and all across the World, please accept our warm congratulations on your 2020 decisive and historic electoral victory, defeating incumbent conservative populist Donald Trump, which mark the beginning of a better, safer and friendlier world. Please accept our best wishes for your success in office as you prepare to accept the great responsibilities and challenges of the office of the President of the United States of America.

We also thank our President Muhammadu Buhari for sending a congratulatory message to former Vice President Joe Biden who has been declared President-Elect of the United States after trouncing the incumbent, President Donald Trump; calling on Biden to introduce greater engagement with Africa on the basis of reciprocal respects and shared interests and expressing optimism that Biden will add value to the presidency and world affairs as an experienced politician who has served in various capacities for many years. “Nigeria is looking forward to better cooperation between both countries, especially at economic, diplomatic and political levels, including the war against terrorism" said President Buhari.

As you embark upon your new responsibilities, we wish to assure you and the members of your administration of the continued support and friendship of the Nigerian communities in the Diaspora and across our great country, Nigeria, looking forward to a brighter future and indeed a very robust US-Nigeria relation, which is very critical to peace and stability in Africa and the world at large, which in turn is a vital security interest of the United States. On behalf of all of us, we also thank you for selecting VP-Elect, Kamala Harris as your Vice-President, which made history by being elected as the first African-American-South Asian woman to be elected to that position.

Much has changed in the White House since you were the former President Obama's Vice President. America's enemies, some goaded by Trump, others enabled by him, are more entrenched. Russia's President Vladimir Putin, China's President Xi Jinping, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and others exploited Trump's vanity and cossetted his ego, while reaping their own gains. But we are very confident that Biden-Harris Administration will quickly find solutions to many issues such as the Covid-19 Pandemic and reverse some of Trump's more controversial policies including on climate change and to work more closely with America's allies rather than bullying them; including Nigeria. The challenges that US face today and the threat of global terrorism will demand the best of President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris, and the world to come together in a concerted manner for the sake of future generation.

We also see the possibilities of US partnership and collaboration with Africa and indeed Nigeria. Nigeria has the largest population in Africa, over 200 million in 2020 and only less than 5 percent is aged 60 years and above. The United Nations (UN) project that the overall population of Nigeria will reach over 400 million by the end of the year 2050. By 2100, if current figures continue, the population of Nigeria will be over 700 million. The population today is very youthful; the demographic shifts will fuel the growth of new sectors, markets, and service lines that will propel these sectors and consequently, the Nigerian economy, into new dimensions of performance; and innovation in these areas: energy efficiency, internet applications and technology. ICT-enabled solutions in healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure, financial services, security and public services can drive socio-economic inclusion of more than 30 million Nigerians each year, faster, cheaper and more effectively than traditional models. With initiatives such as the EPA with Europe, the US-AGOA and now AfFCTA, Nigeria will be the powerhouse of the African continent that will be home to over one billion people and a GDP of nearly $5 trillion making it the fifth largest economy in the world in terms of security and development. Therefore, a US-Nigeria robust relation is very important for Africa and the world; and for America.

President-elect Joe Biden, you have been a supporter of Africa starting from your time in the US Senate and as VP to President Obama. You have been a very good friend and supporter of African reforms; and you very strongly stood by us throughout our dark hours and Nigeria supports you and wishes you well.

Please accept the assurances of our esteem regards while once again wishing you and your administration much success in office.
